Moving with sound: contactless handling of particles and droplets in air by acoustic levitation

Levitation and “at will” motion of matter in air, has captured human interest across disciplines for centuries and can have a wealth of applications ranging from materials processing to biochemistry and pharmaceuticals. At the LTNT laboratory, we study how to extend the use of acoustic levitation to the contactless handling of particles and droplets in air. One of our concepts is well explained here:
